In 2001, CGN held an "Ecology Painting Competition" in which the public was invited to submit artworks, and CGN not only created posters with the winning entries and distributed them throughout the Cordillera, but also held an exhibition in Baguio City where all the entries were displayed. Since then, CGN has been working to educate the public about environmental conservation and indigenous wisdom through art events.
The indigenous peoples of the Cordillera region live in harmony with nature and continue to pass on their knowledge, skills and customs. They have much to offer at a time when people around the world are concerned about the various environmental problems they face.
CGN organizes tours and international exchange programs for the indigenous people of the Cordillera, especially for the next generation of young people. In Japan, CGN participates in environmental events and EXPOs to share with the world the wisdom that the indigenous people of the Cordillera have inherited since time immemorial.
In 2007, CGN organized the "Eco-Caravan" environmental theater workshops for high school students from the Cordillera region in different municipalities. In December 2007, the first "Cordillera Youth Eco Summit" was held in Baguio City, bringing together indigenous youth from different provinces in the Cordillera to perform theater plays. This event was subsequently held in four other provinces: Kalinga, Ifugao, Abra and Mountain. Japanese artists participated in these events as guests, presenting performances and artworks.
Since then, many Japanese artists have participated and facilitated environmental education workshops and events using art as part of CGN activities.
Another major environmental art event was the eco-art festival "Kawanan nan Batawa" (Caring for the Environment) held in November 2012 in Sabangan, Mountain Province. Since 2012, Setsu Hanasaki was involved as a facilitator in CGN's environmental education projects utlizing theater as facilitator.
